Saint Peter High School junior Emmy Remmert was recently announced as the school’s 2023-24 ExCEL Award winner for girls. There were no junior boy applicants this year for the award.
“We had a lot of incredibly strong candidates this year on the female side. Being able to see what else they are involved in that we don’t always hear about was incredible. Reading about our students and what they do for our school and community really goes to show why Saint Peter High School is such a wonderful school, and that we have amazing kids,” SPHS Activities Director Shea Roehrkasse said. “Emmy is a wonderful selection for our schools for the ExCEL Award, she is involved in multiple sports and activities, a great student, and involved in various leadership roles as well. Congratulations to her on being awarded the ExCEL nominee for SPHS.”
Established in 1988, the Minnesota State High School League’s ExCEL – Excellence in Community, Education, and Leadership – Award is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, leaders in their schools, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service. This award is sponsored by the League's corporate partner Wells Fargo.
Emmy, the daughter of Nancy Remmert and Will Remmert, is active with the SPHS Concert Choir and various ensembles (Chamber Singers, Women’s Choir, etc.) along with having participated in the SPHS fall musical the previous two years.
The junior standout has a stellar academic record at SPHS with a weighted GPA of 4.05. She is an active member of the SPHS National Honor Society chapter and a three-year member of the SPHS Student Council. Outside of school she is active with the local FCA chapter and has helped with VBS at her church as well as service as a summer camp counselor for a week-long camp.
“Winning this award means a lot to me because during my whole high school life I’ve tried to be as involved in as much as possible,” Remmert said. “It’s always been a goal of mine to make the most out of the four years I have here at Saint Peter High School, and I’ve worked hard and pushed my limits to be as well-rounded as possible.
“I was also up against some very smart and very involved students from my junior class and it truly is an honor to have been selected from such an outstanding group.”
Athletically, Remmert is a three-sport letter winner for the Saints varsity programs in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was All-Big South Conference in volleyball the past two years along with being a two-year captain and the team leader in kills and digs. On the basketball court, she is the team leader in rebounds for the state-ranked Saints.
Her future plans include attending college and possibly playing volleyball, but she is undecided about her major at this time.
