North Elementary School joined schools from around the country to celebrate Bike & Walk to School Day earlier today (Wednesday, May 8). On this day, North students were encouraged to ride their bikes or walk to school that morning.
Bike & Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
This year’s North Elementary Bike & Walk to School event was organized by Saint Peter School Resource Officer Jon Hughes and North Elementary administrative staff. Other agencies/organizations participating in this event included the St. Peter Police, City of St. Peter, River’s Edge Hospital, and the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office. Mark Plotz from The Smallest Cog Bicycle Shop in St. Peter was also on hand to do ABC (Air, Brakes, and Chain) checks on the kids’ bikes.
