North Elementary School has made some recent updates to its playground area including the installation of a “hammock forest” area that is sure to be popular not just with its students but the community as a whole.
“After several years in the making, we can finally move forward with a few updates to our playground and install our hammock forest,” North Principal Darin Doherty said. “On the playground, accessibility surfaces are being installed in the swing area, allowing students using wheels or walkers to access the area easily.
“The hammock forest will be installed in the courtyard (where the picnic tables are), and students and community members can hang hammocks from posts to read and relax. The hammock forest was an idea created when parents of students in Darren Johnson’s homeroom wanted to make a memorial project after his passing. This part of the project was funded through donations from Mr. Johnson’s students’ families.”
Above and below are some photos of the new hammock forest and the new accessibility surfaces in the swing area.
