North Elementary teepee demonstration

On Indigenous Peoples' Day, we celebrate the traditions and cultures of Indigenous communities across the nation. On Monday morning, North Elementary was honored to celebrate with a live teepee demonstration by our Native American high school students.

While the students put up the teepee, Saint Peter Public Schools’ Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC) member Charmayne Klah talked about teepee history and its cultural significance.

At the end of the session each class was able to tour inside the teepee.

“It's one thing to teach about Native American culture, but to physically see it. That's engage learning,” Klah, who is also a cultural liaison for SPPS, said. “As a cultural liaison I am beyond proud that the younger generation is carrying their heritage with strength and pride.”

Shown here are some photo highlights from Monday’s teepee demonstration.
