North Elementary’s spring play production of “The Velveteen Rabbit” hits the school’s gym stage on Wednesday, April 30 for three shows. The play was written by Thomas Olson and based on the novel by Margery Williams, with special arrangements by Plays for New Audiences.
The North spring play cast and crew will put on a morning show on Wednesday in the gym for South students (grades K-1) and an afternoon performance that day for the North student body (grades 2-4). The public performance is set for 6 p.m. in the gym.
Director for North Elementary’s spring play is Dustin Lenhoff, with Morgan Lenhoff helping out as the set design and crew lead.
“The Velveteen Rabbit is a sweet story about a stuffed bunny who wants to become real,” Mr. Lenhoff said. “He lives in a nursery and feels sad until he becomes the favorite toy of a little boy. Through the boy's love, the rabbit learns that being real doesn’t mean having glass eyes or moving parts—it means being loved deeply. Ultimately, the rabbit’s love is so strong that a fairy turns him into a real rabbit who can hop and play in the forest.
“We've been practicing on Monday and Wednesday afternoons in March and April, and we have 40 participants in grades 2-4,” he added.
