Drama Club builds Confidence with Elementary Students!
South elementary is one of three schools in the Saint Peter School District that had the unique privilege of participating in drama club this year.
Area Director Ray Smart, through Drama Kids international, started this after school program in our area and offers it in multiple locations. It is brought to our schools as a SPPS Community and Family Education program that kids can enroll in at the beginning of the year.
The students practice weekly during the school year learning stage presence, confidence, and self-esteem. All year they learn about theater and this month they’ll perform the play ‘Pirate Joe' in a private performance to family and friends.
Directors of the play are current theater students from Minnesota State University in Mankato and are teaching students about drama and theater. One of the play directors, Emma Hampton, an Elementary Education major and theater minor says, “this is an awesome opportunity to teach kids how to be leaders, even from a young age.”
Head student coach Joaquin Warren, an MSU theater major from Mankato, explains the curriculum they follow allows the students to learn the fundamentals of theater as they work towards performing an actual play at the end of the year.
Drama Club is held at South, North and the Middle School each week. To learn more search Drama Kids International at www.dramakids.com.
South Elementary students enjoy 'Drama Club' each week as a fun after school activity that teaches self-esteem and confidence.
