South Elementary students had or will have a special visitor to their classrooms early this week as Maripsa Romero, one of Saint Peter Public Schools’ cultural liaisons, and her brother Jose Figueroa, read the children’s book, ‘Paletero Man' (the Ice Cream Man) to them.
According to the book synopsis, “‘Paletero Man’ is a vibrant picture book celebrating the strength of community and the tastes of summer from Latin Grammy-winning musician Lucky Diaz and celebrated artist Micah Player.” The book reading was part of the wrap-up of Hispanic Heritage Month activities at South.
The two took turns reading the book to the students – Jose in English and Maripsa in Spanish. At the conclusion of the reading, the two shared a coloring sheet activity with the student’s teachers, which went with the story that was read to them.
