South Elementary Food Service staff had a variety of healthy treats for the kindergarten and first grade students on Thursday (Feb. 29) during their lunch hour with the third annual Tropical Fruit Day.
"Tropical Fruit Day is always a fun and exciting day for the students and staff," Emily Craig, SPPS Food Service Director, said. "Each year I try to include fruits kids may have never heard of or tried, and some that are a bit more familiar. I love to see the willingness of the students to experience new foods. Fruit is such a good stepping stone into trying different flavors and foods. Some fruits are a huge hit and others maybe not too much, but most are willing to give it a try."
Among the tropical fruits the students tried this year included rambutans, mango, dragon fruit, star fruit, and kiwis as well as passion fruit juice. Above and below are some photo highlights from Lizzie Horton, SPPS communications intern.
