First grade students Ben Borslien and Bergen Carter from South Elementary were featured at Monday night's School Board meeting. Each month staff vote on students that exhibit STAR Pride to give an update to the board.
The Top 20 positive behavior program called STAR Pride focuses on creating a growth mindset. At South Elementary, they focus on learning from mistakes and working on developing their own Star Qualities to help in life, relationships with others, and problem solving. South staff work closely with parents and community to create a wonderful learning experience for all students.
South Elementary Principal Doreen Oelke describes South as, "a lively little school with approximately 310 students placed in 8 kindergarten sections and 7 first grade sections. Our small age range of students allows us to specialize in and cater to the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of primary learners. In addition to strong foundational literacy and numeracy acquisition, our child-centered programming also includes specialist instruction in the areas of art, music, physical education & STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art, music.)"
Kindergarten registration is right around the corner! If you'd like a tour or have more questions please contact Principal Oelke at (507) 934-2754 or doelke@stpeterschools.org.
