A group of eight Saint Peter High School FFA members and their two advisors made the trek to Indianapolis, IN, for the 96th annual National FFA Convention and National Expo on November 1-4 at various locales in that city.
Those FFA members attending included Alex Mueller, Tyler Krakow, Haydin Heilman, Gavin Powers, Alison Hanson, Kenna Holtz, Lydia Yost, and Ana Stoffregen along with SPHS FFA co-advisors Jasmine Witty and Jacob Pehrson.
“Among the convention highlights included attending the National FFA Career Expo,” Pehrson said. “We also had the opportunity to listen in as the outgoing FFA National Officers gave their retiring addresses, hear musical selections from the National FFA Band and Chorus, and watch the Talent Acts compete on stage during the sessions."
On November 4th, the SPHS contingent had the honor of watching 2022 SPHS graduate Makayla Moline receive her American FFA Degree. According to Pehrson, this honor is given to only one percent of the students who apply. They base this honor off of a member’s Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) and a panel judges you on your financials, growth, knowledge, and impact that your SAE bestows.
Other highlights from the trip included tours of the John Deere Assembly plant in Waterloo, IA; an Amish farm site along with an Amish-owned and operated cabinet and furniture manufacturing facility in Tuscola, IL; and Ozark Fisheries in North Martinsville, IL.
“Some of our members also got the opportunity to attend a Laney Willson concert,” Pehrson said. “While the tickets for that concert sold out in nine minutes, we didn't quite get enough for all to go. Some members got to showcase their golfing abilities at Topgolf instead of the concert.
“We all got to attend a rodeo as well at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Three Hills Rodeo put on a fabulous show of bareback, bucking broncs, and bull riding. Of course, there was some fun clown entertainment as well.”
