Corbin Herron - state champion

The Saints boys and girls track teams had an outstanding weekend at the Minnesota State Class AA Track & Field meet with nine entries bringing home state medals!

Senior Corbin Herron (shown above atop the medal stand) led the way winning the 110-high hurdles in dramatic fashion to claim his second gold medal at state in that event in three years. He won the gold medal his sophomore year, but was edged by .01 of a second in last year’s state final to settle for silver.

Herron was part of the 4x200 relay team along with Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez, Isai Morales-Bocanegra, and Derek Guth that claimed second-place honors. Herron had the second fastest time going into the 300-intermediate hurdle final, but an injury he suffered in the relay forced him to settle for a ninth-place medal.

Junior Luke Banks just missed the top spot on the medal stand placing second in the discus, just six inches behind the eventual champion. Banks also heaved the shot put to a seventh-place medal to join Herron as an individual double-medal winner for the Saints.

Junior Derek Guth, who ran the anchor leg on the silver-medal 4x200 relay, placed an impressive seventh in the 200-meter dash to earn a spot on the medal stand.

Saints’ sophomore long-distance standout Keira Friedrich made two trips up on the podium as she placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run. Freshman teammate Ella Dirks joined Friedrich on the medal stand for the 800-meter run as Dirks turned in an impressive fourth-place finish in that event.

Other Saints competing at state included Derek Guth in the 100-meter dash, Isai Morales-Bocanegra in the long jump, and sophomore Brock Guth in the pole vault. Other St. Peter girls competing at state were junior Addison Landsom in the pole vault and eighth grader Lydia Fell in the high jump.

The Saints' boys finished in sixth place in the final Class AA team standings with 39 team points, just three points out of fourth place, while the St. Peter girls ended up in 19th place in the team standings with 17 team points.
