Saint Peter High School’s competitive cheerleading team will compete at the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association (MCCA) State Competition this Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
The Saints 2024 state-bound cheerleading roster includes Danely Bocanegra, Genesis Castro, Eva Erickson, Cecily Jacobs, Lila Klause, Ceejae Marroquin, Jillayne McLean, and Bianca Salivia. The team’s coaches are Tasha Timmerman (head coach), along with Maria Figueroa & Karen Soderlund (assistant coaches). Team manager is Miguel Cruz.
A sendoff celebration for the Saints’ state-bound squad is set for Friday afternoon at SPHS and the cheerleaders will also visit South Elementary, North Elementary, and Saint Peter Middle School before heading to St. Paul.
According to the MCCA website, “The MCCA State Cheerleading Competition is for school teams and recreational teams not associated with All-Star only. The divisions are set up to fit Minnesota cheerleading better and provide a competitive atmosphere. Game Day is being offered and will be broken into four divisions; Varsity Tumbling, Varsity Non-Tumbling, Junior Varsity, and Elementary/Middle School.”
The Saints will compete in the varsity non-tumbling division at the state competition. All varsity traditional routines will participate in a preliminary round of competition to determine who will advance to finals. The Saints are set to perform at 1:13 pm (est). The top five of Class A will advance to finals Saturday night.
